Inspiring Students in Computing

As part of our Community activities in education, Black Marble brought together luminaries in the field of computing to enthuse and inspire A'Level students from local schools and colleges. The aim was to encourage more young people to take up Computing as a Degree and Career choice.

It took place on the 5th December at The Holiday Inn in Tong, and we invited students from 5 local schools along to participate.

Our speakers included

  • Robert Hogg - MD of Black Marble, Fellow of the British Computing Society, Honorary Fellow in Computing, University of Hull.
  • Andrew Fryer - Microsoft Evangelist
  • Gary Short - Head of Gibraltar Labs, Microsoft MVP
  • Giles Davies - Microsoft Evangelist
  • Simon Thurman - Cloud Technical Strategist, Microsoft
  • Joanna Tong – Technical Evangelist
  • Paul Trundle - Lecturer in Computing, University of Bradford
  • David Grey - Lecturer in Computing, University of Hull

We also had support from the University of Bradford, AQA, OCR, e-Skills, CAS and the Imagine Cup and Dreamspark team at Microsoft UK.
